The house that Ben and Mel built - Update

9 Months have passed since the land contract was signed...

Well the first mortgage payment is officially due tomorrow, and at this stage we have, 585 square meters of dirt... oh and a couple of taps...that dont actually have any water plumbed to them. Oh and we have pegs, a street sign, street lights (minus the all esential electricity) and the first metre of our driveway :). It's not alot, but the pieces will very quickly start falling in to place very shortly. The land settled in December and work was scheduled to commence a couple of days before the builders broke for Christmas holidays, alas, it's still not been started. 2010 is the year of the house!

We got a letter from the local council, lifting the restrictions on the plants we can use on the land which was nice. Surprisingly though the letter was not adressed to the lot number but instead"Number 9". We officially have our new adress, even if there's not a dwelling, or a letter box or a permit to camp on our lovely big patch of dirt.

The buils time is estimated at 18 weeks, so if all runs to plan, sometime after Easter (April / May) we will be in the thick of laying carpet and tiles so we can make the big move. Still haven't decided on floor coverings as yet, but it seems the further in advance we plan, the more hurdles and hold ups we encounter along the way, so best we wait till there is a slab before we start trying to cover it!

Till next time...

Mxx
